What to Expect from Master's Studies at UrFU
First-Semester Courses for Master's Students
Dear mathematics students, here is an overview of the subjects you will study in your first semester.
PYTHON PROGRAMMING
Students learn Python syntax and work with libraries including SciPy, NumPy, Matplotlib, and Pandas to address applied problems. The course teaches students to express mathematical problems as code and present and visualize data and computational results.
SYSTEMS ANALYSIS
This subject introduces methods for studying complex objects as systems. Students learn theoretical principles of system organization and operation, including economic systems; methods of analysis and synthesis; critical assessment of complex situations; interpretation of research findings; and the development of action strategies.
ELECTRICITY GENERATION TECHNOLOGIES
The course examines the design and operation of small-scale generating plants, including fossil-fuel and renewable installations. Topics include the technical and economic characteristics of distributed generation, operating modes, grid connection, and integration into large energy systems.
HISTORY OF ENERGY
This subject traces the emergence of modern energy systems and their main technological and economic milestones. Students examine influential figures, major branches of energy production, transmission systems, the development of dispatch and control, and the economics of electricity at national and global levels.
DISCRETE MATHEMATICS
The course covers sets, relations, combinatorics, propositional and Boolean algebra, predicates, coding fundamentals, algorithms, and automata. It provides the mathematical foundations for algorithmic approaches to practical problems.
Some subjects are delivered as online courses, helping students prepare for assessments and examinations.
The semester also includes introductory technological and project practice, plus an industry project delivered with the partner identified as UTSB in the original publication.
