Student Residence Permits: Information for International Students

Students from other countries also enrol in our master's programmes. Here we explain the temporary residence permit available for educational purposes.

To qualify for the student permit, an applicant must study:

– full-time at a state educational institution or research organisation;

– on a programme with state accreditation.

The student permit is issued:

– for the duration of studies at the university or research organisation, according to the programme length;

– for an additional six months (180 days) after the programme ends.

The application must be submitted to the local migration authority in person or through the Gosuslugi public services portal.

Advantages include:

– a multiple-entry visa;

– no annual notification requirement;

– an extended period of residence.

A student permit is cancelled if the holder transfers to part-time or correspondence study or withdraws before completing the programme.

An international student may reapply for a student permit no earlier than one year after:

– a previous application was rejected;

– an earlier permit was cancelled.
