UVInsDet: Open Insulator Image Dataset for Computer Vision

We have released UVInsDet: more than a dataset, it is a complete research resource containing annotated insulator images captured with a narrow-angle ultraviolet camera in the visible spectrum, alongside code for reading and visualising the data.

An important distinction is that, according to the research team, this is the first openly available dataset collected at power stations rather than along overhead transmission lines. Scenes at power stations are more challenging for object recognition because equipment is densely arranged and visual interference is common, bringing the task closer to actual operating conditions.

The release is available on Zenodo with a DOI and can now be cited:
