Potanin Grant Funds a pandapower Online Course

We are introducing projects by our master's programme lecturers who secured support in the Potanin Foundation's grant competition. The first is a redesign of Analysis of Power Systems Operating Modes, led by Pavel Matrenin together with Andrey Bramm.

The course is currently taught face to face to master's students and focuses on the analysis of electric power system operating conditions. The project will significantly update its content, strengthen practical work and create an English-language online version for international master's programmes.

Practical sessions will use pandapower, an open-source library for power system modelling and analysis.

Students will approach the course as researchers rather than simply users of ready-made software. They will:

– describe a power system model in code;

– perform steady-state power-flow calculations;

– analyse and interpret their results.

Practical exercises will be designed as reproducible computational experiments, enabling students to master the full engineering analysis workflow from model preparation to interpreting results.
