Digital Twins Laboratory Showcases AI and Robotics at INNOPROM 2025

At the international INNOPROM 2025 exhibition in Yekaterinburg, researchers from UrFU's Power Engineering Digital Twins Laboratory presented advanced solutions combining energy technology, robotics and artificial intelligence.

Stanislav Eroshenko, PhD in Engineering, Associate Professor at the Institute of Energy and a member of our teaching team, described the deployment of an intelligent diagnostic system at Iriklinskaya Thermal Power Plant, one of Russia's largest facilities of its kind.

The system combines ground-based and airborne robotic platforms with multispectral sensors and an AI analysis module to detect defects in near real time.

According to the presentation, diagnostic accuracy reaches 87%, while labour requirements decrease ninefold. The collected data are used to develop a digital twin of a 220 kV switchgear facility.

Laboratory staff also participated in a business session on using low-grade heat to improve energy efficiency in households and industry.

The team's participation supports the introduction of AI and digital solutions into energy infrastructure in the context of sustainable development and the region's industrial transformation.
