Our Research: Intelligent Forecasting for Hydropower

Researchers at our Digital Twins in Electric Power Engineering Laboratory — Stanislav Eroshenko, Evgeny Shmakov, Dmitry Klimenko, and Irina Yumanova — have developed an intelligent system for forecasting spring river runoff to improve hydropower plant operation.

Hydropower performance is affected by factors such as changing weather and fluctuations in electricity demand. The forecasting approach represents these factors as dynamic changes in a virtual environment, allowing different operating modes to be investigated.

The researchers use artificial intelligence to model operating scenarios, together with tools for building applications compatible with Russian operating systems.
