Exploring the History of Ural Federal University

Our master's students from China recently visited the UrFU museum to learn more about the university and Russian culture. The guided tour gave international students a chance to experience university life and discover its history and traditions.

In the mid-1960s, two regional institutions — Ural State University and Ural Polytechnic Institute — each established a history museum. At a formative time for science and higher education in the Urals, these museums preserved the stories of the researchers, teachers, and students who made major contributions to the region.

The museums were combined in 2011 following the merger of the two universities, and their collections expanded substantially. The renovated museum and exhibition complex opened in 2016 and now shares this history with visitors.

Across the museum's two floors, visitors can explore:

• A second-floor gallery presenting the university's history and key achievements decade by decade.

• A first floor divided into rooms dedicated to the individuals who established the university's reputation in various fields.
