As part of the Electricity Generation Technologies course, students attended a lecture by Ilya Zaslavsky, a specialist in the power network operating-mode modelling group at RTSoft Smart Grid in Yekaterinburg.

The lecture was entitled "Energy Storage: A Key to Flexible Power Systems."

The discussion covered:

• why power systems need energy storage;

• how storage changes grid dispatch operations;

• why flexible and decentralised networks cannot develop without it.

We are especially pleased that Ilya is a 2025 graduate of our AI in Power Engineering master's programme. Welcoming alumni back as guest speakers is always particularly rewarding.

RTSoft is an industry partner of our educational programme. The company develops digitalisation solutions for power engineering, creates control systems, participates in digital substation projects and deploys smart energy technologies across Russia.

These meetings help students understand the operational context of intelligent power systems and identify concrete career pathways for their own professional development.
