Drone and Computer Vision Project for Power-Line Inspection

The curriculum includes an industry project practicum: students work with a partner company to solve a real business problem using real-world data. The practicum runs throughout the first three semesters.

Students in this programme and Smart Urban Energy Systems can choose among several projects. One project uses a drone to assess the condition of overhead power-line equipment.

One future drone pilot will be selected competitively, trained and certified. The pilot will collect data from operating power lines for the team, while other students assess equipment condition and detect faults using computer vision.
