CopenHill, also known as Amager Bakke, combines a waste-to-energy plant with an all-season ski slope in Copenhagen, Denmark. Opened in 2017, it illustrates an innovative combination of architecture, energy production and waste management.

The project was designed by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). Its concept integrates industrial functions with public spaces, making the plant a place for recreation as well as infrastructure.

The rooftop artificial ski slope is covered with a special synthetic material designed to provide a skiing surface.

Another section of the roof contains a park with 7,000 shrubs and 300 trees, offering visitors green space and panoramic views of Copenhagen.

CopenHill generates electricity and heat for the city. According to the figures cited in the publication, the plant processes around 400,000 tonnes of waste annually, supplying electricity to at least 50,000 households and district heating to 120,000 households.
